Traditionally famous for producing black teas of medium quality for the mass market, Nilgiri is now home to several boutique producers that devote their energies to cultivating premium micro-lots of as little as 250 kilograms. Along with their newfound wisdom came cha-tea-and the birth of a tradition that has become deeply ingrained in Japanese culture and identity. Black Teas from Assam (India) - Thursday, Mar 13th
The mighty Brahmaputra River roars down from the Himalayas into the plains of Assam and Bangladesh before it merges with the Ganges and drains into the Indian Ocean. It is here, in these fertile lowlands, that some of the finest black teas in the world are grown. Robust and malty, with hints of tobacco, squash and burnt caramel, Assam teas came to dominate the Western table. Brace your taste buds as we explore the diversity of taste in East India.
